A Letter to Max

Dear Max,
As we approach another tough anniversary, I wanted to do something special to keep the memories from fading any faster. So in honor of your Dad I made this video for you…A portrait of your Dad. The lyrics of the song, “I hope you dance,” describe your Dad’s wishes for your life.

This is from me to you. This is the truth.
You’ll never know how much joy you’ve given me.
I Love You,
Momma

  1. Dear Max,

Your daddy was a great man. And your momma did a great job honoring his memory. Although your time together was short, his love for you was great and continues still. May you take pride in the knowledge that you are Rick Von Meister's son - and courage that his strength and goodness are part of his legacy to you.

    Much Love,
Kendra and the rest of the crew

  3. Becky, this was a beautiful tribute to Rick, and a wonderful way to keep his memory alive in Max's heart. We love you guys so much. And thinking back to this time when Rick was "born into glory", just makes us miss you and Max all the more. I'm restraining myself from packing up the car and heading south this very minute.

Max, we could go on and on about your Daddy and what a great man he was. Someday, you can read the letters your Daddy's friends wrote for you, and Uncle Larry will take you & Caed camping, and he'll tell you even more great stuff about your Dad. In the meantime, know that your Daddy's love for you in those first days and weeks of your life was so great, so deep, it was truly a lifetime's worth.
We love & miss you SO much.
    Love,
Auntie Jo, Uncle Larry, Caed & Dani

  4. Max,

I worked as a police officer with your Daddy and he was a real hero. He helped everyone he could and once risked his life to save a family in need.

A lot of people really miss your Dad because he was a brave man and a good friend.

He is very proud of you

  5. Max,

I also worked with your Dad. Along with being a great police officer, he was also a great friend. I looked forward to seeing him and his always positive attitude at work each day.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

  6. Max,

This was a wonderful reminder for all of us and a real tribute to your father. You can see how he vigorously pursued life and still maintained a very gentle nature. Always remember that his remarkable spirit is with and within you.

  9. I found this site after searching for Rick on Facebook and didn't turn anything up.

Rick was the RA on my floor my freshman year at GMU. We remained good friends beyond the dorm, but later lost touch over the years.

I remember him being strong in body and spirit. Good and clean-cut, but always up for some harmless mischief -- he'd get a twinkle in his eye and you'd know some kind of spontaneous conspiracy was afoot. His strength was used for kindness and justice and patience, even then. He was exactly the kind of guy you would want in a police officer: genuine, clear-headed, compassionate, thoughtful.

I am so, so saddened to hear of his passing. Add one more to the seemingly infinite tally of those whose life Rick touched for the better.
